The Supreme Court recently clarified that, pending the issue of whether the reservation for the Scheduled Tribes community for the posts of Talathis can exceed 50% or not, the Maharashtra State Government would be entitled to fill in 50% of the total strength available from the reserved category for the recruitment of teachers in Zila Parishad Schools in tribal areas.

A bench comprising Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran noted that by an order of the Court dated October 13, 2023, a statement was made before the Bombay High Court that although the recruitment has been initiated pursuant to the August 2019 notification reserving 100% posts for the Scheduled Tribes community for the Talathis (revenue posts), it is not likely to be concluded.
