Hillarys Dog Beach and horse exercise area will reopen from 2pm Friday after debris potentially containing asbestos from old beach huts was uncovered earlier this month.
The City of Joondalup closed the beach on August 8 after erosion caused by wild weather exposed hazardous building materials from old beach shacks that used to line the coast from Whitfords Beach to Pinnaroo Point. They were made from asbestos sheeting and corrugated iron.
“Good news: the Hillarys animal exercise area will reopen to the public today,” a city community announcement said.
“The city has completed the necessary remediation works to provide a safer environment for visitors.”
