One night late last month, Jack Farrell met up with friends near Fenway Park to celebrate the Red Sox advancing to the playoffs .

A couple of hours later, around midnight, he was waiting for his ride home to Dedham when a stranger suddenly struck the 22-year-old hard in the face. Farrell slumped to the ground, lying motionless in the middle of a crosswalk near Loretta’s Last Call, as blood gushed from his nose and mouth.

The attacker continued walking down Lansdowne Street toward Brookline Avenue at a casual pace, passing crowds of onlookers and turning to look back a couple of times, according to surveillance video of the Sept. 28 assault and a Boston police report. Investigators are still trying to identify the suspect.
