PHOENIX — Phoenix shattered a daily rainfall record for the second day in a row on Sunday as thunderstorms continued throughout the Valley.
The previous daily record for rainfall on Oct. 13 was 0.32 inches and was set in 1957. That record was unofficially surpassed around 3 a.m., per National Weather Service (NWS) readings from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport — which the weather authority uses for the city’s official readings.
NWS Meteorologist Gabriel Lojero told KTAR News 92.3 FM that 1.69 inches of rain had fallen at the airport since midnight.
