Sumbal Bala Bridge in Ganderbal closed for heavy vehicles after public outcry

Ganderbal, Oct 12: Authorities in Ganderbal have closed the movement of heavy vehicles on the Sumbal Bala Bridge in Gund tehsil of the district after it was found to be structurally unsafe, years after being declared so by the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department.

Officials said that despite repeated advisories from the R&B Department declaring the bridge unsafe, heavy vehicles continued to ply on it, posing a serious risk to commuters and nearby residents. The bridge, which connects several villages, has been showing signs of wear and damage for years.

The decision to restrict heavy traffic came after locals raised the issue with SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, during the Thana Diwas programme held at Police Station Gund on Saturday. The residents had urged the officer
