LINN COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) - As hunting season ramps up, DNR Conservation Officer Travis Graves said safety should be every hunter’s priority when heading out on a hunt.
Graves said one of the biggest tips he can give is making sure you’re visible, and blaze orange can help with that - no matter the season.
“I think if every hunter wore blaze orange when they’re out there hunting, I think we’d see less hunting incidents,” said Graves. “There’s a lot of foliage on the trees. So it can be challenging to see further in the distance what’s beyond some of that foliage in the trees. So just always being visible and always making sure you’re visible to other hunters.”
Graves said communication is key if you’re with a group.
That includes mapping out where you’ll be hunting and staying in touch
