SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington Congressman Michael Baumgartner spoke with media members virtually Sunday afternoon about the government shutdown. He says the shutdown sets a bad precedent when trying to accomplish policy change.
Congressman Baumgartner emphasized that the country is trillions of dollars in debt and the government will be in a budget deficit this year.
According to him, Democrats want a tremendous expansion of funding for the Affordable Care Act and say taxpayer dollars would go into illegal immigrant health care. To which he says Republicans don't think is a reasonable resolution.
Before the shutdown, Congressman Baumgartner says the Republicans offered a "clean continuum spending resolution," which means a resolution with no policy changes in order to keep the government
