ESPAÑOLA, N.M. —

The New Mexico Wildlife Center's latest "ambassador animal," a sandhill crane, has been waiting for the public to pick a name from three options.

And the winner was "Echo" — appropriate because the bird's call can be heard from a distance of two miles.

The center said that Echo has gotten used to his new home, where he loves playing in the water and digging holes in the mud.

Ambassador Animals can be symbolically "adopted" for yourself or as a gift. The adopter will receive a sponsorship packet about that animal, and the donation fee will support year-round care for the center's wildlife.

Information is available online at info@newmexicowildlifecenter.org.
