TORONTO - Nathan Lukes has been pulled from the Toronto Blue Jays' lineup in Sunday's Game 1 of the American League Championship Series.

The Blue Jays say he was removed with a right knee contusion and will undergo further evaluation.

He was replaced in right field by Myles Straw to start the fourth inning.

Lukes fouled a pitch off his bat and into the top of his right knee in the first inning.

He was examined by the Blue Jays' trainer and continued his at bat, drawing a 12-pitch walk from Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Bryce Miller.

Lukes continued to play for two more innings before leaving the game with Toronto leading 1-0.

The 31-year-old is hitting .308 this post-season with five runs batted in.
