Some residents in Edgewater spent the weekend picking up pieces of their lives, again, as the city fights to bring attention to the too-often recurring problem of flooding in Volusia County.

The flooding on Friday in Edgewater was the latest in a series of similar events that occur, both during hurricanes and during rainstorms.

Many of the impacts are in the Florida Shores neighborhood, a large swath of the city that's laid out in a grid pattern.

Stormwater from the grid feeds into the 18th Street Canal, said Mayor Diezel Depew.

He said around 50 homes in the city received major flooding inside, compared to around 300 last year during Hurricane Milton.

“It’s occurring and occurring and keeps occurring, and I’m sick and tired," Depew said.
