FOREST CITY, Pa. — A boom heard across Susquehanna County signaled the start of the 2025 Steamtown Marathon.
More than 1,000 runners tackled 26.2 miles of weaving roadways and trails.
Thomas Dean of Colorado was the first to cross the finish line in downtown scranton, just five minutes under two and a half hours.
Thomas Dean, overall marathon winner, spoke about their thought process going into the marathon.
"I ran the Pikes Peak ascent, which goes up to 14,000, so those last couple of hills at the end, I was like, right, if I can do Pikes Peak, I can struggle up these hills," said Dean.
Dean's decision to run the race came as an invitation from a friend and last year's winner, and turned into a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon.
