DES MOINES, Iowa —

More than 200 people walked in Des Moines Sunday to honor babies lost too soon during MercyOne's 26th annual Walk to Remember at the hospital downtown.

Families who have lost an infant by miscarriage, stillbirth or newborn death gathered to honor their loved ones and to see they are not alone.

"We've come a long ways with breaking the silence of stillbirth and infant loss. And when families come together, they can see they're not alone," said Connie Thompson, MercyOne labor and delivery bereavement coordinator.

Crystal Marciniek from Garner shared her feelings about the event, saying, "It's just a lot of overwhelming feelings, I feel like. But you're proud to honor your baby, walk around the hospital with other families that are in the same shoes as you."
