Pune city police initiated the process towards extradition of fugitive gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, who fled the country last month allegedly using a passport procured illegally.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Nikhil Pingle confirmed that a communication has been made with the central government to issue a Blue Corner Notice through the Interpol for Ghaywal’s extradition.

A Blue Corner Notice is issued by Interpol to collect information about a person’s identity, location, or activities in relation to a crime when the person’s whereabouts are unknown.

Last month, on the night of September 17, members of the Ghaywal gang allegedly opened fire at a man and attacked a student with sharp weapons in the Kothrud area.
