Now in his second year as a starter, Zachary Gable is putting together what might be his best season at Pacific Lutheran.

The senior from Mountain View had three tackles, one sack and recovered a fumble on Saturday as the Lutes beat Tacoma-area rival Puget Sound, 41-27.

After seeing sporadic playing time his first two years, Gable moved into a starting role on the defensive line last season. He appeared in all 10 games, finishing with 24 tackles and five sacks.

Through five games this season, Gable is on pace to surpass those numbers. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound edge rusher has 16 tackles, including 6 ½ tackles for loss and three sacks.

Pacific Lutheran is 3-2, including 2-0 in Northwest Conference play. The Lutes are seeking their second consecutive berth in the NCAA Division-III playoffs
