With criminals posting the personal data of 5.7 million Qantas customers on the dark web this weekend , consumers are being advised to brace for a deluge of scams, tied to the data dump, headed their way.

The data was stolen in June, when criminals used AI to trick a Manila-based Qantas call centre into giving them access to the information. The attack was part of a larger crime campaign by hacking group Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters. As Qantas’ cybersecurity team scrutinises the data found on the dark web, the airline is urging consumers to be vigilant of scams involving its brand and activities.
