A man accused of being an accessory to the murder of Bundaberg teenager Pheobe Bishop has missed his court appearance for the second time. Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser, 30, is the third individual arrested in connection with the case. He faces two counts of accessory after the fact to murder.
Mittelheuser was scheduled to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court via video link. However, just 12 minutes before the hearing, the court was informed that he had experienced a medical issue and could not attend. His initial court appearance was set for August 25, but he was excused when the video link was canceled by the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre, where he is currently in custody.
Pheobe Bishop, 17, was last seen on May 15, when she was supposed to catch a flight from Bundaberg Airport to Western Australia. After weeks of searching for her, authorities discovered her body in Goodnight Scrub National Park.
Police allege that Mittelheuser interfered with the investigation by accessing Pheobe's mobile phone shortly after she was reported missing. Two of Pheobe's housemates, James Wood and Tanika Bromley, have been charged with her murder and are also in custody.
In addition to the murder-related charges, Mittelheuser faces several other unrelated offenses. He is expected to make his next court appearance via video link on December 15.
