An apartment in an affluent Sydney suburb has sold for a record price, but locals have been left baffled over the sale.

The North Bondi one-bedroom unit, just 32sqm in size, at 12A/77 Ramsgate Avenue on Ben Buckler Point sold for a whopping $2.5 million.

A local revealed the whole neighbourhood is talking about the sale, shocked that someone would be willing to pay a record price for the tiny unit.

"It’s just mind-boggling. It’s just such a tiny apartment … you couldn’t give these away back in the day," a North Bondi local told the Wentworth Courier.

Despite the extremely desirable location, the record price may be even more surprising considering the apartment does not have a beach view.
