Life can be pretty brutal for our four-legged friends. Right now, there are countless pets forced to survive in unimaginable conditions. Some of them are scavenging for food. Others are breathing stale air. And some, sadly, are adapting to spaces no living being should endure.

But even in what can only be called the worst of places, their will to survive is what impresses me most.

Recently, one such case of resilience was on full display in Vista, California. The rescuers answered a call from a landlord about a hoarding situation, only to find a shocking scene inside an apartment.

The rescuers at San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) arrived at the scene after the landlord said they hadn’t seen the tenant in weeks, but knew they had pets.
