Bhubaneswar : Bhubaneswar’s stray dog population has been revealed to be 47,126, according to a comprehensive census conducted by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).
For the first time in the state, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has conducted a comprehensive stray dog census in its jurisdiction. The survey was carried out in two phases from September 18 to 25, covering all 67 wards of the city. The enumeration took place from 5 am to 7 am each day, across every street and lanes, said sources.
The survey found 23,047 male dogs, 15,552 female dogs, and 1,124 puppies. Notably, 4,068 male dogs and 3,335 female dogs have already been sterilized. Ward 23 has the highest number of stray dogs, with 1,703, followed by Ward 6 with 1,062.
