PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day/Columbus Day, and to recognize the dual holiday, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority has released its first holiday schedule since the route cuts went into effect .
Today, RIPTA will run a Sunday holiday schedule, and close the ticket window at Kennedy Plaza.
Only the customer service kiosk in the Newport Transportation Center will remain staffed today.
With the exception of route 203 URI/Narragansett/South Kingstown, there will be no flex service.
This is the first holiday RIPTA has provided service since route cuts went into effect at the end of September.
Due to those cuts, service on lines 6, 16, 21, 30, and 35 have either been reduced or cut all together.
