HIBBING, Minn. — Investigators are trying to determine what triggered a home explosion and fire in Hibbing Sunday evening that impacted nearby homes and sent at least one victim to the hospital.
The Hibbing Fire Department says crews were dispatched shortly after 6:30 p.m. after neighbors called 911 to report an explosion and subsequent fire on the 2200 block of 9th Avenue East, not far from Hibbing High School. Firefighters arrived to find a two-story house completely engulfed in flames.
One person was transported to Fairview Range Hospital for treatment. There are also reports that two children in the vicinity were struck by flying glass and taken to the hospital by private vehicle.
Fire officials say the flames jumped to a nearby home and caused heat damage to others. The fire was br
