President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kondwani Nankhumwa, has officially announced his candidacy for the position of Speaker of the National Assembly.

With extensive experience in both Parliament and government, Nankhumwa expressed confidence that his background and commitment to impartial leadership make him the best candidate for the role.

Nankhumwa has served as Member of Parliament since 2009 and was Chairperson of the Parliamentary Media Committee from 2009 to 2011. He also served as Leader of Opposition in Parliament from 2020 to 2024.

In a press statement, Nankhumwa pledged to treat all Members of Parliament equally, regardless of party affiliation, and to promote a culture of diplomacy rather than confrontation in the House.
