Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand is visiting India this week, marking the first ministerial trip in two years as Ottawa works to rebuild relations with New Delhi. The visit comes as new polling shows Canadians are split on trusting India and re-establishing diplomatic ties.
A survey by the Angus Reid Institute, in partnership with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada, found that 51 per cent of Canadians believe restoring relations was the “right move.” Just 22 per cent said it was the wrong decision. Diplomatic relations had been frozen since 2023, when then-prime minister Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the killing of Canadian Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
