From the Reporter-Herald photo archives: "New wing for waywards - As the animals they serve watched from behind, board members of the Humane Society for Larimer County and area elected officials ceremoniously turn dirt over at the site of a new shelter wing Thursday. Included in the line are from left, Kathleen and Tom Byinton, Ed Stoner, John Ulvang, Mary Wright, Daryle Kassen and Howard Zollner. The new wing will cost $170,000 and expand north from the existing shelter 1,100 square feet. The big improvement for the shelter will be a new ventilation system that will help rid the shelter of airborn germs." Originally published Oct. 9, 1987.
