At least 42 people died and nearly 50 more were injured after a bus crashed and overturned while navigating a "mountainous" highway.

The bus was traveling on the N1 highway in the Limpopo province in South Africa when it went off the road on Sunday, Oct. 12 at around 6:00 p.m., according to the Associated Press , the BBC and Sky News .
