YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- Acadian Ambulance, in conjunction with the Youngsville Fire Department, recently donated an potentially lifesaving device to St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville.

The church now owns a new automated external defibrillator (AED), a portable device that analyzes the heart's rhythm and delivers an electrical shock to restore a normal heartbeat for someone in sudden cardiac arrest. Combined with CPR, it can greatly increase a person’s chances of survival following a cardiac event, authorities said.

The church plans to train its ushers in how to use the AED, with the help of Acadian and the Youngsville Fire Department, officials said.
