He tied the all-time record with five passing touchdowns in the game, though the Longhorns fell short after a miraculous comeback from Caleb Williams in 2021.

It was on a touchdown pass during the rivalry game that Thompson's thumb hit an opposing helmet, causing significant ligament damage.
