A 70-year-old Totowa resident was fatally struck by a vehicle on Saturday morning on Route 9 in Monmouth County, Oct. 11, authorities said.

At 7:33 a.m., Marlboro Township police responded to Route 9 and County Route 520 after Sherrill Sakas was struck by a Honda CR-V while attempting to cross from the southbound to the northbound side of traffic , Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago said.

Sakas was pronounced dead at the scene, Santiago said.

The crash remains under investigation, Santiago said.
