Eagles edge rusher Za’Darius Smith has announced his retirement from the NFL in an Instagram post after 11 seasons.

It comes as a surprise to some as Smith signed with the Eagles last month on a one-year deal.

“I knew this day would come — but now that it’s here, I’m feeling so many emotions I never expected,” Smith wrote, including photos throughout his NFL career.

Smith, 33, did not share what led to his decision to end his playing career.

Instead, he commemorated his time spent on the field and explained how the game has helped him grow as a man.
