CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A Virginia mother and a group of supporters are looking to break down stigma and encourage hard conversations about suicide prevention through a new design of custom Virginia license plates .

“It’s basically just to honor each and every person we have lost to suicide and get people just thinking and talking about the awareness and prevention,” said Jacqui Herron, mom and founder of Matthew Matters .

Herron founded the Matthew Matters group in honor of her son, who lost his life to suicide. Now, she’s hoping to raise awareness throughout the Commonwealth.

“We decided that we wanted to have a personalized plate in the state of Virginia just to bring awareness to the suicide epidemic,” Herron said.

To get those plates, they need 450 people to apply — paid
