The Jackson Police Department is investigating a homicide after a man was found dead on Liberty Street.

Interim Jackson Police Chief Tyree Jones said officers responded at approximately 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, to a call about a deceased, unidentified man who had been shot at a residence in the 3700 block of Liberty Street.

Jones said police received a call from an individual who discovered the victim inside the residence.

Jones said the victim is a Black, 33-year-old man who was fatally shot at least once in the head.

Hinds County Interim Coroner Jeramiah Howard identified the victim Laterrance Barnes.

No suspect information has been released at this time.
