Timmins transit workers voted in favour of a new contract on Saturday, despite it not meeting a key demand that drivers and service workers get the same base pay increase.
“The contract they offered us the second time, was exactly the same as the first,” Rosanna Moreau, CUPE Local 1544 spokesperson, told The Daily Press on Monday.
The 32 out of 39 members present voted 27 to 5 in favour of the deal.
Moreau said resumption of services depends on the city but she hopes Timmins Transit will be fully operational before next Saturday, Oct. 18.
The second tentative agreement between the City of Timmins and CUPE Local 1544 was reached Friday, Oct. 10 with the help of a conciliation officer appointed by the Ministry of Labour. A conciliation officer may be called by either side when negotiat
