LANSING, Mich — After numerous frozen shrimp recalls and warnings across the country dating back to August , the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is warning Michiganders to check their freezers for radioactive shrimp.
MDHHS and the Michigan Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) are encouraging people to look for recalled shrimp products that may contain Cesium-137 (Cs-137), a human-made radioactive substance.
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says that no product that has tested positive or alerted for Cs-137 has entered the U.S. marketplace. However, MDHHS is warning that there is still a risk that untested shrimp contaminated with Cs-137 may still have been sold in stores.
