Auburn running back and team captain Damari Alston is no longer with the team, head coach Hugh Freeze confirmed on Monday.
“Damari failed to meet the expectations and standards of our program, and we love him. Wish him the best. But that's where it's at,” Freeze said.
Before his departure, Alston tallied 128 yards on 32 carries with one touchdown in four games played this season. Averaging four yards per carry, Alston received just 16 carries over the last three games he appeared in. His season high came against Baylor, in which he recorded 84 yards on 16 carries.
The 5-foot-9, 214-pound senior mustered 809 career rushing yards in four years with the Tigers. His best season came in 2023, when he ran for 320 yards and two touchdowns, including a career-best 56-yard rush against Alabama.
