COLUMBIA — A silent Russell Laffitte was sentenced Oct. 13 to a mix of prison time and probation on state criminal charges for his role in helping disbarred attorney Alex Murdaugh steal nearly $2 million from his clients.

Appearing alongside his attorney Mark Moore, the former Palmetto State Bank executive — dressed in rumpled khaki pants and a tartan blazer — paid little mind to members of the media, his attorneys, and his own family members gathered in the Richland County Courthouse. He stared ahead or at the table as he received his second sentence in as many weeks for his role in Murdaugh’s yearslong financial schemes.
