An Illinois man is sentenced to 12 to 25 years behind bars for sexually assault a then-12-year-old girl in 2023, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced.
At the time, the victim lived in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula, and the perpetrator lived in Illinois, the news release said.
In April 2023, Javier Mora, 22, of Des Plaines, Ill., began communicating with the victim through online gaming platforms. He then drove from his home in Illinois to Cadillac, Mich., where he committed the sexual assault, prosecutors said.
Mora was charged by the Wexford County Prosecutor’s Office in November 2023. Under Operation Survivor Justice , he was arrested in Illinois in January 2025 and extradited to Michigan to face charges.
