Taylor Swift is thanking fans for "the lovely bouquet" after breaking another record. This time with "The Life of a Showgirl."
The album is officially her 15th time snagging a No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart, Billboard reported on Monday, Oct. 13. Swift's latest album, which was released Oct. 3, debuted with 4.0002 million equivalent album units − which includes pure album sales and streaming activity − earned in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 9, according to Luminate.
"I have 4 million thank you's I want to send to the fans, and 4 million reasons to feel even more proud of this album than I already was," Swift said in an Instagram post on Monday, Oct. 13. "Thank you for going out to celebrate this project in the movie theaters, investing in vinyl, streaming, watching the video, buying CDs, reading the poems I wrote inside the packaging, and immersing yourselves in 'The Life of a Showgirl.' I'll cherish this feeling forever."
"I'll cherish this feeling forever," Swift added. "Just wow."
On Dec. 31, 2023, she dethroned Elvis for the most weeks on top of the charts and is second to The Beatles. Today, the album dethrones Netflix's "Kpop Demon Hunters" soundtrack, which fell to No. 2.
Of the four million album units, nearly 3.5 million were pure album sales. More specifically, a total of 3,479,500. The record for single-week album sales was previously set by Adele's "25" in 2015.
"I'll never forget how excited I was in 2006 when my first album sold 40,000 copies in its first week," Swift wrote Monday. "I was 16 and couldn't even fathom that that many people would care enough about my music to invest their time and energy into it. Since then, I've tried to meet and thank as many people as I could who have given me the chance to chase this insane dream."
All songs from "The Life of a Showgirl" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, taking the top 12 spots, according to Billboard. This marked another milestone for Swift, making "The Life of a Showgirl" to take all the top spots on the chart uninterrupted.
"The Fate of Ophelia," "Opalite," "Elizabeth Taylor," "Father Figure" and "Wood" round out the top five spots.
To promote "The Life of a Showgirl," Swift partnered TikTok, Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon to host fan-forward events, including a Los Angeles pop-up, a New York pop-up, a scavenger hunt game using song lyrics, and an orange cardigan fan event, respectively.
The singer also appeared on "The Graham Norton Show" and a slew of London radio stations before returning to the U.S. Days later, she appeared on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and then "Late Night with Seth Meyers."
To accompany "The Life of a Showgirl," she partnered with AMC Theatres, Regal and Cinemark for her film, "Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl," which topped the box office during its opening weekend.
