A new statewide initiative underwritten by the Lilly Endowment aims to improve elementary students' reading skills, officials announced today.
The Indiana Afterschool Network is using the Lilly grant to pay for the IAN Literacy Playbook, a program that trains before- and after-school care providers how to help children become better readers.
The network is now accepting applications and plans to award up to 150 grants for as much as $25,000 each, according to a news release. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all available funds have been awarded, officials said.
Recipients will receive tools, resources and training in the Science of Reading, a proven approach to improving literacy.
