When Luca Holtham was born his family and doctors had no idea if he would achieve milestones other children tick off routinely.
But through the help of Ability WA’s Telethon-funded programs the 18-month-old, pictured left, has already learnt to sit up, use his hands and communicate through sign language.
Luca was born with a long list of rare health issues including a hole in his diaphragm, a spinal abnormality causing cord damage, global developmental delay and he needs an oxygen tube to help him breathe.
This means Luca needs specialist support and equipment but, with a long waitlist to receive National Disability Insurance Scheme funding, his family would’ve struggled to afford the care he needed.
