Capitol Expressway in San Jose was closed in both directions Monday after a construction crew hit a gas line, fire officials said.
PG&E and fire crews are at the scene, on Capitol Expressway just south of Capitol Avenue, San Jose Fire Department officials said on social media.
About 11:30 a.m., crews hit a 2-inch plastic gas line that resulted in a gas leak, fire officials said.
Capitol Expressway is shut down in both directions between Capitol Avenue and Story Road, with traffic impacts expected to last three hours.
Side streets in the area are also affected by the road closures, and motorists are urged to find alternate routes.
