Fresno Unified School District Trustees will make over $50,000 annually under a new bill signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom over the weekend.
While trustees will see a major pay raise, the increase is not nearly as high as was originally proposed when the bill was introduced into the Legislature.
Driving the news: Asm. Jose Luis Solache (D–Lynwood) introduced Assembly Bill 1390 to increase school board member compensation across the state. • Current state law allows board members to receive varying compensation based on the size of their school districts. Districts that have over 60,000 students can pay their board members up to $1,500 per month, currently. • State law also allows 5% annual raises, which FUSD trustees implemented in 2019. FUSD trustees reportedly make $1,735 per month. •
