KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
The NFL has suspended Detroit Lions defensive back Brian Branch for one game following his role in Sunday night’s postgame fight with members of the Chiefs.
The league announced Monday that Branch will serve the suspension without pay. Advertisement
The altercation began moments after Kansas City’s 30-17 win at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, when Branch refused to shake Patrick Mahomes’ hand and then struck wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
That led to a scuffle between both teams.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell apologized for Branch’s actions during his postgame press conference, calling them “inexcusable.”
“I love Brian Branch, but what he did is inexcusable and it's not going to be accepted here. It's not what we do. It's not what we're about," Campbell said.
