A suspect has been indicted in the 2024 shooting death of a man who was gunned down in Birmingham while riding a motorcycle.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Keena Deon Creer, 40, of Alabaster, on capital murder in the slaying of 39-year-old Obray Carter. He is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The indictments were issued Oct. 3 and made public Monday.

The shooting happened about 12:30 p.m. on June 5, 2024, in the area of First Avenue South and Center Street.

Officers arrived at the scene to find Carter unresponsive and slumped over on a motorcycle.

Investigators believe Carter either stopped in the area, or was riding his motorcycle, when the fatal shots were fired.

Police said they believe Carter was targeted.
