POLK COUNTY, Fla. — For two months, a man says he lived in a trailer on the same property where thousands of migrants have been detained in the Florida Everglades.
“I was a translator,” he said.
He doesn’t want to show his identity, but we confirmed his employment with a company that was granted a multimillion-dollar contract to provide staffing for the facility known as "Alligator Alcatraz."
“At the beginning of June...they sent me an email that there was going to be an opening going on in Okeechobee. So, um, so during that time I didn't know it was Alcatraz. Then, when they told me it's gonna be there, I just agreed," he told us.
He was paid $20 an hour.
