The Chicago Transit Authority unveiled a planned fare increase for 2026 on Monday, just days after Metra proposed a hike of its own.

The government oversight body of Metra, CTA and Pace - the Regional Transportation Authority - has required all three agencies to raise fares by a minimum of 10% next year amid an approaching fiscal cliff. The RTA had warned of a $771 million potential deficit but earlier this month revealed the budget gap had significantly decreased to $200 million.

The CTA, writing in its proposed fiscal year 2026 budget, which was unveiled Monday, said it proposed a "modest" fare increase with "minimal ridership impact."
