A group of Northwest Indiana organizations sent a letter to the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission, asking for a public meeting about the arsenic levels at the Chase Street artesian well.

Gary Advocates for Responsible Development, the Gary Food Council and Calumet Collaborative sent the letter on Oct. 9, saying it was on behalf of the organizations, members of the Chase Street Wetlands Community Advisory Board and patrons of the well.

A U.S. Geological Survey study found that arsenic levels were above the maximum contaminant level for drinking water, according to Post-Tribune archives. The study includes test results from 2022 and 2023 at groundwater wells in Northwest Indiana.
