RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - As the remaining living hostages were freed from Gaza, the Richmond synagogue where Hersh Goldberg-Polin spent his childhood continues to honor the memory of the 23-year-old who could not be brought home safe.

A wreath and sign outside Keneseth Beth Israel serve as reminders of the attack on Israel and lives impacted, like Hersh’s.

He spent most of his childhood in Richmond, attending the synagogue before moving to Israel with his family.

He was 23 when Hamas attacked Israel, and he was abducted. His body was recovered after almost 11 months of captivity.

The wreath was laid last week by Virginia’s governor and the synagogue’s rabbi as a sign of mourning on the second anniversary of the war.
