BELOIT, Wis. — A professor who spent time at a Wisconsin university has won international recognition.
Dr. Joel Mokyr, who was an Upton Scholar at Beloit College, has won the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics, the school announced on Monday. The award was said to recognize his groundbreaking work in economic history and the economics of technology.
As the 2023-24 Upton Scholar , Dr. Mokyr spent a week at Beloit College where he met economics students, visited classes, and gave a keynote speech.
During his time in Beloit, Dr. Mokyr taught a seminar where he helped students do research related to his work. The 2023-24 program also included a class that tied Dr. Mokyr's work to Beloit's industrial history.
Dr. Mokyr is the fourth Upton Scholar to have won the Nobel Prize out of 16 Sc
