YOUNGSTOWN - New information is coming to light about the man who police said shot a Youngstown officer last Thursday, before the standoff resulted in the man's death.
Investigators have identified the suspect as 28-year-old Arthur Tyrone Mitchell.
Police said Mitchell opened fire on officers responding to a call about a suspicious person on Rush Boulevard.
One officer was shot in the arm and was rushed to the hospital, and is expected to survive.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the probe into the Youngstown shooting.
Court and police records show Mitchell was previously arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, in connection with an attempted armed robbery in late 2019 that led to a shootout with an off-duty police officer.
