OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — A first-of-its-kind nuclear generator is being built in East Tennessee — and Gov. Bill Lee spent the day in Oak Ridge announcing a new manufacturing facility.

The company "Radiant" will produce the world's first portable nuclear generator, investing $280 million to build the facility. Leaders said the new facility would create 175 new jobs.

According to Lee, this is the kind of investment that makes the lives of East Tennesseans better.

"When you invest hundreds of millions of dollars, you raise the level of opportunity to our state," Lee said at an event on Monday.

Radiant is the sixth company located in Tennessee using the state's nuclear energy fund , which was created in 2023 by Lee and approved by the Tennessee General Assembly.
